Support
Groups
Ephesians sponsors confidential support groups in
the greater
Baltimore-Washington area where members implement the "self-help"
portion of the three-pronged treatment at Ephesians. The purpose of the groups is for
members to share their experience, strength, and hopes and to encourage each
other to grow in intimacy in their relationships between God, self, and
others. Support groups are based on the 12 Steps originated by Alcoholics
Anonymous, but our groups openly proclaim Jesus Christ as our higher
power.
Support groups are run by the participants with a trained,
volunteer facilitator but are not supervised
by a professional therapist. We train people to become facilitators of
support groups. People who are interested in sharing their experiences,
strengths, and hopes with other people who are struggling with a challenging
issue are encouraged to obtain the training. After receiving the
training, people are welcomed to start a group and join Ephesians as an
Affiliate Group. Affiliates are listed in the Where and When in
the newsletter and on the web with the other Christian support groups.
Affiliates are also represented on the Ephesians Board of Directors and
conduct some social events, seminars, and retreats.
